Spending money to spend some ‘quality time’ with a few special acquaintances. You pay by the hour… get given ‘toys’ and a background on each individual. Sounds like a creepy brothel? Close!
The rules are the same as any such ‘establishment’:
Touching is ok, you can play… but don’t harass them. And you can’t take them home.
What is this madness? You pay a fee to enter the cafe full of kitties, toys, snacks and snuggles. These cafés are uniquely Japanese – with most apartments forbidding pets in Japan you can sneak away from home to have some special petting time and stress busting.
Cat Cafés are frequented by couples on dates, ladies hanging out and pet lovers. It’s a really happy, fluffy environment to escape the world. I think the cats wish they could escape the crazy humans constantly trying to touch them and photograph them.
(Cat Café featured is the aptly named Pfft in Okayama City… open til 10pm for late-night cat adventures)
