#103 Summer Festivals

Summer festivals in Japan are a welcome escape from the dreadful heat and humidity.

festival1The atmosphere is greatfriendly, upbeat and relaxed.

You can enjoy foods like yakisoba, yakitori, meat on sticks, fried potatoes and of course shaved ice with syrup:

The best part? Dancing and traditional music while wearing a thin summer kimono called a ‘yukata’:

Sometimes you might see games for kids to win prizes … often including fish and turtles(!)

Occasionally you might see some ‘uraja’ dancing performances in Kansai and especially Okayama:
