Summer rocks in Japan.
The two biggest festivals are Summer Sonic and Fuji Rock
Summer Sonic is held in Tokyo and Osaka over a weekend in August.
This year is featuring rock-heavyweights Metallica, Muse, Linkin Park and the Smashing Pumpkins. Also high up there is the Japan rock sensation Mr. Children.
Two day tickets range from 23,000 for Osaka and 28,000 for Tokyo. Check their site out here.
Fuji Rock is held at Naeba Ski resort in Niigata prefecture is a three-day extravaganza.
This year it’s featuring the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Bjork and the Cure. A three-day ticket will set you back a hefty 43,000 yen. The camping pass 3,000 yen to that ticket. And day tickets are 19,000 yen. Check out the official site.
These two festivals bring mostly western artists to Japan.. if you’re looking more for home-grown artists check out the Rock in Japan fest. (It’s also a little cheaper than Summer Sonic or Fuji Rock.)
Between these two festivals you’re bound to find something you like! If not, I hear there are some other rock festivals in Tokyo during summer…
