#111 Kamakura’s Daibutsu

‘Daibutsu’ means Great Buddah… and this dude is GIANT.

He sits upon Kotokuin Temple’s grounds in Kamakura, near Tokyo.

It is actually the second tallest Daibutsu statue in Japan… beaten by Nara’s Todaiji temple.

It was first built in the 1200’s but had been destroyed and in disrepair many times before coming to sit serenely as he does today.
