#173 Ikebana

Ikebana is the art of flower arranging.

It’s still a popular past-time and some high schools even have ikebana clubs.

Doing ikebana isn’t a laugh though – you’re supposed to be calm, quiet and almost meditative about appreciating the flowers and things people often miss during their busy everyday lives.

Viewing ikebana exhibitions is also a relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

‘生け花’ itself actually means ‘living flowers’.

Ikebana focusses on minimalism and not just on the blooms of the flowers. Stems, branches and buds are used to portray the artists intentions.
