Izumo Taisha is one of the oldest and most important shrines in Japan.
It’s located in Izumo, in sleepy Shimane prefecture.
Traditionally, the gods gather at Izumo Shrine in October to discuss the upcoming year’s marriages, deaths and births and other human-y things.
So, people in the Izumo area call October kamiarizuki/“the month with gods”.
The rest of Japan calls October kannazuki’/“the month without gods”.
