#267 Christmas Cake

Just like the KFC for Christmas thing… Christmas cake takes a different spin in Japan.

The only fruit involved is strawberries.

It is a strawberry shortcake with Christmas decorations and even candles.

There are a variety of regular cakes that range from 500-1500 yen. But can run into thousands of yen for fancy cakes.

It’s often eaten on Christmas Eve, rather than Christmas day.

Christmas Eve is a “date night” to rival Valentines in Japan.

So, if you don’t bring your lady fried chicken and strawberry shortcake you’re in trouble.

Don’t give up hope though!

There are some more traditional cakes gaining popularity though, like the classic chocolate yule log.

Merry Christmas!
