#279 Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

This 90’s video game was a phenomenon in Japan.

It was less popular overseas but the Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon was released on N64 in America and Europe.

The title was just as wordy in Japanese:
Ganbare Goemon: Neo Momoyama Bakufu no Odori/がんばれゴエモン~ネオ桃山幕府のおどり
Meaning: “Go for it, Goemon: Dance of the Neo Peach Mountain Shogunate”

The gameplay was similar to Zelda or Mario but involved catchy songs and it was super Japanese.

Set in feudal Japan you see a lot of characters, costumes and settings that are traditional Japan

And fighting giant robots, of course.

The premise of the game is to stop the giant robotic Peach gang from turning Japan into a westernised fine arts theatre.

It is full of nonsensical plots, humour and fighting.
