#312 Gozan no Okuribi

五山送り火/Gozan no Okuribi is a festival where bonfires get set on fire on mountains to make words and shapes.

It’s more commonly known as Daimoji/大文字 which means “big letters”.

It’s held in Kyoto every summer.

It’s the culmination of the O-Bon festival on August 16.

Five giant bonfires are lit on mountains surrounding the city.

The bonfires only last for 30 minutes each but the view is awesome!
