Whenever someone travels they bring back omiyage for their friends/coworkers.
Omiyage is translated as souvenir, but it’s usually some type of food.
Each area has “special foods” like Tokyo banana, or Hiroshima’s momiji manju.
It’s big business and everywhere has individually wrapped boxes ready to buy.
The individually wrapped part is really important – some Japanese people think it’s unsanitary to share food from one big bag.
Also, if they’re individually wrapped you can share them with house guests and the expiration date is longer.
