#386 Haniwa

Haniwa are clay statues, most iconically in the shape of a human form.

They were buried with the dead as a funeral tradition.

Haniwa were made in Japan during the Kofun period – between the 3rd and 6th centuries AD.

Most of the Haniwa were found in the south and west of Japan.

There are many Haniwa that were made in the shapes of animals or weapons too.

They are definitely the inspiration for the Gyroids in Animal Crossing:

Sort of creepy when you think about it, because you dig these up from the ground in the game!
