#390 Chichibu Yomatsuri

This is one of Japan’s biggest festivals held in Tokyo’s neighbour – Saitama prefecture.

You’ll never guess where the Chichibu yomatsuri is held: Chichibu Shrine in Chichibu City!

Yomatsuri・夜祭 literally means night festival (夜/yo/night and 祭/matsuri/festival)

It has giant floats that can rival Kyoto’s gion matsuri.

The floats are displayed at their respective temples in the evening and then paraded around the streets from 7pm.

There are also fireworks, food and all the fun you’d expect from a festival.

It’s held on the 2nd and 3rd of December every year – the 3rd is the biggest and best show!
