#467 Butsudan

仏壇/butsudan literally means “Buddhist Altar”.

It is a shrine often found in Buddhist temples.

It is also a common sight in Japanese homes, especially in the countryside.

Often there’s an alcove where a small shrine will be set up.

Family members pray for their ancestors and make offerings.

They can be quite expensive but still the majority of traditional homes have a bustsudan.
