#520 SMAP

SMAP are Japan pop-superstars.

They were formed by the talent agency – Johnny & Associates.

They are the biggest talent agency for male celebrities – the creators of Arashi, TOKIO, KAT-TUN, Hey! Say! Jump! and Kis-My-Ft2.

They were formed in 1988 and are still going – despite a recent scare of breaking up in the near future. (Even BBC News picked up on this).

SMAP stands for  Sports Music Assemble People.

Actually, they are the best selling boyband in Asia and have sold over 35 million records.

They also have their own TV show – SMAPxSMAP on Fuji TV.

It attracts celebrities like Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas:

SMAP are definitely key figures in the Japanese pop culture of recent decades and have millions of fans worldwide!
