#530 Zaku Zaku

Zaku Zaku is a chain store that always has a long queue (except in my photo below on a Monday morning).

It serves a kind of cream filled stick of almond pastry.

ZakuZaku is actually an onomatopoeia word in Japanese which is a crunching sound!

You can find them in Shinjuku Station, Harajuku and Kamata.

It’s originally from Hokkaido.

The reason it’s special is because it is made freshly in front of you – the cripsy outer, baked in store, is filled with the cream when you order and it has to be eaten within the day (asap is better).

It means the ingredients are fresh, the outside is crispy and the inside is still cold and delicious.
