Sitting around a hot plate with your friends and family cooking is a popular past time in Japan.
You already know about nabe – the winter dish.
Another popular one is Takoyaki, the octopus filled dough balls.
Simply served, they are a ball of batter filled with a small piece of octopus, served with sauce, mayonnaise and bonito fish flakes on top.
However, you can put any ingredients you like – adding cheese, cabbage or ginger isn’t uncommon.
Some people take it a step further a use pancake batter to make sweet balls for desserts!
(Takoyaki is also found in arcades in Japan like the previous post here.)
